From a morning blood pressure and cholesterol control routine to no meds at all!

After watching friends and family come down with seemingly sudden and life-threatening health issues, some even passing away without warning, Allan Kalmus decided that his weight and health weren't just hereditary but something he could and should take control of. At the age of 58, Allan committed to researching how foods affect our bodies and well-being. Before long he began questioning his own medical training and the fact that his family doctor never really talked about how big an impact our food choices have on our health. Now, three years later on a whole foods, plant-based, and oil-free diet, Allan is down 100 pounds, off all blood pressured and cholesterol medications, his sleep apnea has completely gone away, and he runs 5k three times a week! Way to be, Allan! w00p!

Milan's Incredible 225 Pound Weight Loss Journey

The After nearly 20 years of struggling with losing and re-gaining weight, trying various diet and weight loss programs, and attributing his health conditions to genetics, Milan Ross gave it one more go. Through his employer, Whole Foods Market, Milan was granted an opportunity to participate in a plant-based immersion course created by Dr. Scott Stoll's. That experience has since led to a miraculous healthy weight loss, a book deal, and a passion driven by helping others address their health and dietary conditions too. "Looking back I realize all the gadgets, pills, and diets over the years were simply the means for me to feel, even if for the briefest of moments, hope—hope that one day my life and health would improve." Milan is now off all medications and continues to live plant-based.

Off All Medications + Natural Weight Loss

We have been inspired by yet another plant-based success story shared on the Forks Over Knives blog. This one comes from Melissa Dodd-Ruesing who had gone from meat-centric food choices, to a failed LapBand surgery with complications, to eating vegan. The latter of which helped her to naturally lose more than 80 pounds and drop all of her prescription medications! "I can now keep up with my kids...have more energy than ever...love to ride my bicycle, play golf, walk, run...and plan to run a 5k with my kids; I am also raising money to [run] in the St. Jude Marathon this year," said Dodd-Ruesing. So awesome of you to share your story, Melissa! Thank you for inspiring us all!

Life Transforming 220 lb Weight Loss via a Plant-Based Lifestyle

At the age of just 32, Louisiana native Josh Lajaunie weighed in at just over 400 pounds. Initially fearing for his health Josh began going to a gym, which led him to a 10k race, and then to a book called Born to Run. "...I had [previously] dismissed the vegan diet as nothing more than an extreme thing that one did as a political statement. I had never thought of it as an asset to an extreme athlete before." Josh continued his search and eventually learned about vegan ultra-endurance athletes like Rich Roll and Scott Jurek; and soon the Forks Over Knives documentary as well. "I have lost 220 pounds overall...[and have helped six family members make healthy changes—losing a combined 1,000 pounds]...All of this has led me to the undeniable conclusion that plants are what humans are supposed to eat, period." Thank you for sharing your inspiring journey, Josh! So awesome!
