Dutch Meat Company Commits Half its Business to Plant-Based Products

In a surprising move one of the largest Dutch lunch meat companies, Zwanenberg has decided to sell off half of its company—replacing 50 percent of it to focus on meatless proteins—in an effort to respond to consumer demand. "It is now quite normal for young people to not eat meat three days a week," said Zwanenberg CEO Ronald Lotgernik. The company—which has been around since 1929—will shift its focus to veggie-based products including sauces, soups, and meatless snacks. They are not alone, mega food companies like Tyson, Nestlé, and Danone have also invested in plant-based products in recent years as consumer purchases skew more veg and less animal-based foods.
