From a Terminal Prognosis to Recovery & Now a Health Specialist: Kate's Success Story

In 2007 clinical supervisor and mother to three, Kate McGoey-Smith received heartbreaking news that would forever change the course of her life. After experiencing bouts of sluggishness and fatigue testing revealed that Kate was suffering from severe right-sided heart failure, severe sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, and a terminal prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH, level 3 out of 4). After stumbling upon the documentary Forks Over Knives, Kate attended a 5-day intensive program at Dr. McDougall's Health and Medical Center. She began changing her dietary choices, taught herself how to cook healthier meals (she'd been vegetarian for a while and at the time of prognosis), and before long was on the road to health and wellness. "Fifteen months later my eyesight was fully restored, I was off the lung transplant list...and no longer required diabetic medications. My right-sided heart failure was gone and so were symptoms like neuropathy, dizzy spells, and fainting." Kate had also lost more than 100 pounds and has since become a Certified Food for Life Instructor.
